Beard/Mustache Transplant

Hair transplantation refers typically to the medical procedure of restoration of hair in areas affected with baldness due to any appropriate reasons. Exactly like transplantations of hair is done for the scalp. Similarly, a few men suffer from hair falling in the beard and mustache area. They need a similar kind of treatment to restore their facial hair. A beard and mustache is a male’s symbolism and represents the abundance of male hormones from a simple glimpse on the face. Once a man starts developing facial hair problems, low morale levels, and lower confidence while representing himself before a third person.

We, at AWISH, use the same FUE technique for beard and mustache transplant in Delhi that we employ in hair transplantation over the scalp. The hair grafts are plucked from the donor region, usually the back of the scalp. They are transplanted to the patchy bald portion of the mustache or beard. The transplanted hair grows naturally like other facial hair and can be trimmed or shaved.

Two popular techniques are being used commonly for hair transplantation methods. The first way, known as FUM, or FUG, can be developed as Follicular Unit Micro grafting, also widely known as strip harvesting or strip method. It involves removing about a 3 to 4-inch strip of hair-bearing scalp from the donor and dissecting tiny grafts containing four hair each. These mini grafts are then grafted onto the patient’s affected areas to grow just like normal hair using local anesthesia.

The whole procedure takes approximately 4 to 8 hours, depending upon the number of grafts being transplanted. The second technique is FUE, or Follicular Unit Extraction, and involves the extraction of individual follicular units than the entire strip and then dissecting it. The benefit here is that it does not convey any undesired scar in the donor’s affected area. This is why only FUE methods are preferred for facial hair transplantation, as no one would like the FUT method’s unsatisfactory results with scars on his face. The transplanted facial hair looks completely natural when completed with the FUE method. No one can tell the actual difference.

For beard or mustache transplantation, hair is taken from the back of the patient’s head. The experts’ highly critical procedure must only be performed as no one would want to have a scarred face. After successful transplantation, the transplanted hair might fall after three weeks, but this should not annoy you as they get back more beneficial than always, next 4 to 6 months. It is recommended not to shave for approximately 9 to 10 days of the treatment, but you may use scissors to shorten them.

White Beard Removal

White beard removal refers to the process of eliminating or reducing the appearance of white or gray hair in the beard area. As individuals age, their hair follicles gradually produce less melanin, resulting in the loss of pigmentation and the growth of white or gray hairs. While some people embrace their gray or white beards as a sign of wisdom and maturity, others may prefer a more youthful or uniform look and seek methods to remove or minimize the white hairs. For individuals seeking a more long-term solution, laser hair removal can be an option. Laser treatment targets the melanin in the hair follicles, damaging them and inhibiting future hair growth. While laser hair removal is not specifically designed to address white hairs, it can reduce the overall density of the beard, making the white hairs less noticeable. It’s important to consult with a qualified professional to assess the suitability and potential effectiveness of laser hair removal for white beard removal.

Before deciding on any method for white beard removal, it is recommended to consult with a  dermatologist who can provide guidance on the most suitable options based on your hair type, skin sensitivity, and desired outcome.

Beard/Mustache Transplant

Treatment For Beard/Mustache Transplant

Beard/mustache transplant is a hair restoration procedure that involves the transplantation of hair follicles to areas of the beard or mustache where there is thinning or lack of hair growth. Here is an overview of the treatment process for beard/mustache transplant:

  1. Consultation: The first step is to schedule a consultation with a qualified hair transplant surgeon specializing in facial hair restoration. During this consultation, the surgeon will evaluate your beard/mustache area, discuss your goals and expectations, and assess the available donor area for hair transplantation.

  2. Donor area selection: The surgeon will identify the most suitable donor area for hair extraction. Typically, the donor area is located at the back of the scalp, where hair is similar in texture and characteristics to facial hair. In some cases, body hair may be used as an alternative donor source if scalp hair is insufficient.

  3. Hair extraction: The surgeon will extract individual hair follicles from the donor area using either the follicular unit extraction (FUE) technique or the strip harvesting method. FUE involves the use of a small punch tool to extract hair follicles one by one, while strip harvesting involves removing a strip of scalp containing hair follicles, which is then dissected into individual grafts.

  4. Graft preparation: Once the hair follicles are extracted, the surgical team will carefully prepare the grafts for transplantation. This involves separating the individual follicles from the surrounding tissue and preserving them in a specialized solution to maintain their viability.

  5. Recipient area preparation: The surgeon will make small incisions or recipient sites in the beard or mustache area where the hair follicles will be transplanted. The placement of these sites is crucial to achieve a natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing result.

  6. Graft transplantation: The prepared hair follicles are meticulously transplanted into the recipient sites using specialized instruments. The surgeon will take into consideration the desired beard/mustache design, direction of hair growth, and density during the transplantation process to ensure a natural appearance.

  7. Post-operative care: After the procedure, you will be provided with instructions for post-operative care. This may include guidelines for washing the transplanted area, avoiding certain activities that may disturb the grafts, and taking prescribed medications to promote healing and minimize the risk of infection. Regular follow-up appointments will be scheduled to monitor your progress and address any concerns.

  8. Recovery and results: The recovery period for beard/mustache transplant varies from person to person, but most individuals can expect some initial redness, swelling, and scabbing in the transplanted area. These typically subside within a few days to a week. Over time, the transplanted hair follicles will begin to grow, and you will start seeing gradual improvement in beard/mustache density and appearance. It’s important to note that the full results of a beard/mustache transplant may take several months to a year to become apparent.

Choosing a skilled and experienced hair transplant surgeon who specializes in facial hair restoration is essential for achieving optimal results. They can provide personalized recommendations, ensure the highest standards of care, and maximize the chances of achieving a natural-looking and well-defined beard or mustache.

FAQ

Beard/mustache transplant is a surgical procedure that involves the transplantation of hair follicles to areas of the beard or mustache where there is thinning or lack of hair growth. It is performed to enhance the density, shape, and overall appearance of facial hair.

Suitable candidates for beard/mustache transplant are individuals with patchy beard growth, thinning or bald spots in the beard/mustache area, or those who desire a fuller and more defined beard/mustache. Good candidates have an adequate donor area from which hair follicles can be extracted for transplantation.

The procedure typically involves the extraction of hair follicles from a donor area, usually the back of the scalp, and their transplantation into the beard/mustache area. The hair follicles are carefully implanted into tiny incisions made in the recipient area, following the desired beard/mustache pattern and natural hair growth direction.

The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, which numbs the donor and recipient areas. Some discomfort or minor soreness may be experienced during and after the procedure, but it is generally well-tolerated. Pain medications may be prescribed to manage any discomfort during the recovery period.

The duration of the procedure depends on the extent of the transplant and the number of grafts required. It can range from a few hours to several hours. Your surgeon will provide you with a more accurate estimate during the consultation.

The recovery period can vary, but most individuals can expect some redness, swelling, and scabbing in the transplanted area. These usually subside within a few days to a week. It is important to follow post-operative care instructions provided by your surgeon, which may include guidelines for washing the transplanted area, avoiding strenuous activities, and taking prescribed medications.

The transplanted hair follicles will shed within the first few weeks after the procedure, but new hair growth should begin within a few months. It may take several months to a year to see significant growth and achieve the final results. Patience is key, as hair growth is a gradual process.

Yes, the transplanted hair follicles are typically resistant to the effects of hair loss and will continue to grow naturally. However, it is important to note that the transplanted hair will require regular trimming and maintenance, just like natural facial hair.

As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications, although they are rare. These may include infection, scarring, bleeding, or uneven hair growth. Choosing an experienced and qualified hair transplant surgeon can help minimize these risks.

Yes, once the transplanted hair has fully grown and stabilized, typically after a few months, you can style, groom, and trim it as desired. Your surgeon can provide specific recommendations for beard/mustache care and grooming techniques.
